Yes, tornados are fascinating, however...
I'd prefer not to be IN one, if'n ya don't mind.
Holy shit.
It went from calm to 'what da fuck?' wind in less than two minutes.
First, George and Eric got almost halfway out the driveway on their way to the store for me. Then, the lights blinked. Then, I noticed all the dogs whining at the back door. Then, quickasthat it was windy. And, I'm talkin' dust-devils, bent trees and flying debris WINDY.
I looked outside and whirled around, back to the pooter and started heading for the weather shit. Just about that time, Eric beeps me and tells me that Bob's dog, Rex, had followed him and George out to the road and they can't get him in the car or to go home, so they'll be right back. Can't just leave Horsedog (as I call him) out there along that road alone. So, they back alllll the way back down the driveway to the creek. As Rex went across the bridge, they floored it and he came the rest of the way on back.
He was so scared, poor baby. I met him, to make sure he didn't follow them again and he followed ME, right into my house.
I hurried up and gated the doorway between him and the three 'indoor' dips dogs and let him have the livingroom. April, my 'outside' dumbassed dog was with him as he stepped inside, as she'd broken her chain AGAIN and decided she wanted in, too.
So!...
Now, I've wound up with Ziggy locked in George's room because he wouldn't quit acting like a nimrod and growling, Rex, April, Daisy and Jessie in my livingroom (Gawd help my livingroom) and all the cats, large and tiny up here in the 'rest of the spread' with me.
Oops. It's starting to rain again, just much more lightly. It did stop for about a minute, too. I need to be able to go feed the horse, but I'd like NOT to drown while I'm at it. What to do, what to do....? HA! RUN, is what to do. The rain stopped again. Be right back.
(I hope...)

My flight was coming in from a chicago and the pilot had just come on and said that we were cleared for landing and going to try to beat a duststorm heading into the vicinity of the airport..and our descent would be a bit quicker than it would normally be so to keep seated and buckled tight.
We banked and out my window I saw this orange and red wall of dust coming from the north west of phoenix - it was like a hollywood special effect, like the one in that stupid movie the mummy a few years ago. But ALOT bigger. It came and came and came swallowing up roads, houses, cars and we ducked under some clouds and banked again and I lost sight of it. We landed pretty quickly after that.. THUMP THUMP THUMP and came rolling to the end of the runway and turned going still pretty fast towards our terminal. The pilot kept up the speed until we were parallel to the terminal and then slowed down enough to get to the actual terminus. All stopped... When I got my briefcase and got off the plane and into the terminal it was like leaving day for night. The dust had enveloped the entire airport and you could not see the plane from the window a mere 5 or so feet away from the inside where I was standing.
Amazing...and frightening - if I had known it was going to be that bad and that close I would have needed a change of boxers.
YEEEEHAAAA!
God Bless Us All - Every One.
