In my brief perusal of the NJDEP pages, it seems possible that deer are still in season perhaps in restricted areas and by restricted means. Lord knows they don't make figuring it out easy. But I don't think it can be assumed that the hunters who found the bear cub were poachers.
I'd also bet that whoever did that to the bear cub did it to get the gall bladder for sale. The Asian market for exotic animal parts is still strong. Sickeningly strong.

I agree. Deer season, or any other season for that matter, comes and goes at different times in different places.
And from where I'm at, there are several different kinds of deer seasons, bow, gun, and musket or somethin' along those lines.
That is a bad way to do a young bear though, but from what I hear, Jersey's got it bad with bears as of late. I'm not justifyin' it. I'm just sayin'.
I believe I read recently that they were considerin' openin' up a season for bears...
