Ta-Daaa....

John as Joey Coyle....

mfn.jpg

He's in the neighborhood bar in this shot.
I've been reading some things about the real Joey Coyle. Apparently there's a book out by some dude who wrote some other famous tome. (Both his name and the name of the other book are just gone outta my mind right this second...) From what I understand, neither the book nor the newspaper articles it's based on are very nice to Joey. (Probably has a lot to do with the fact that I can't remember the name of either...) The author(s) seemed to want to just make Joey out a born loser, which just puts me off. The story itself is enough. There's no need to get rude about it.
None of what I've read has changed anything about how I feel about Joey and what he did. He's still pretty cool in my blog.

3 I read that Joey Coyle committed suicide, even as he was waiting for the movie to be released (1993). Can't seem to find any pix on the 'net yet of him...gonna keep looking. Curiosity's killing this cat...

Love John C's performance in this movie (as ALWAYS!!)

5 Joey hung himself in his basement with cable wire. I saw someone has asked about that. He struggled with a drug problem at the time of finding the money. He later did get help, but it was always a struggle. I'm from South Philly too and hearing his story really struck me. I had heard it growing up from people I know who knew him. He had a good heart, but the drugs just got to his mind. He lost control of the money. It actually took control of him. In the end he just got sick of people telling him "what they would have done". Maybe if he would have found the money when he was straight...maybe this, maybe that. Rest in peace Joey
