Mewling Obama Supporter Calls Secret Service, Attempts to Inform on UFC Fighter
The petty little tyrants just can't stand dissenting views, can they?
Volkmann's comments were clearly rhetorical, and requesting someone to compete in an organized sporting event with rules, attending physicians, a referee and panel of judges can in no way a threat. But because our timid little President is so delicate and easily offended, the Secret Service has wasted our tax dollars to harass a citizen and small business owner for comments that would have elicited a yawn under the previous administration, where liberal death threats against President Bush were a staple of their protests. Democrats aren't tough enough to face domestic criticism. We should hardly be surprised that they are so easily rolled by our nation's real enemies.
UFC lightweight Jacob Volkmann, following his UFC 125 win over Antonio McKee, declared that he wanted to fight President Barack Obama for his next fight. [snip] After defeating McKee, Volkmann was asked who he would like to fight next. Volkmann first requested Clay Guida, then said "Actually, Obama. He's not too bright … Someone needs to knock some sense into that idiot. I just don't like what Barack is doing." [snip] The Secret Service showed up both at his residence and during a youth wrestling camp he coaches. [snip] "This guy had the whole interview on a piece of paper and it had my picture and everything," said Volkmann. "He was like 'is this what you said?' and I said, 'yes it is.' He's like 'I want to let you know I'm a little embarrassed for coming here and doing this because obviously nothing happened.' He actually apologized for coming, but he had to come. He wanted to make sure I wasn't going to D.C to hurt the President. "The thing is, I got home and I checked my e-mail and I had about 20 e-mails and one of them, one of ladies had actually contacted the FBI and the Secret Service, and she was telling me that she was going to do it." The person who contacted Volkmann, according to the fighter, was a member of the election committee that worked for President Obama's campaign.

Recall back in the days of Clinton being POTUS: then Senator Jesse Helms made a comment in an interview to the effect that Billy Jeff should not be visiting some parts of North Carolina. A few days later that Constitutional Officer got a visit by the Secret Service about what he knew.
Bottom line, you don't go around mouthing off about how you or someone is going to harm POTUS, no matter who POTUS is. It's kinda like talking about blow up planes (also in jest) while waiting to go through airport security.
FULL DISCLOSURE: I didn't like Obama as a Presidential candidate and my views haven't gotten any better.

The fabulously wealthy, strong, successful, intelligent, coddled, and gifted actor Will Smith said that 9/11 made no impression on him, because as a black man in America he experiences terrorism every day.
I'm sure that's how most of Obama's supporters--especially the women--think of him, too.

However, it's not the threat that bothered the Obama supporter. It was the statement "I just don't like what Barack is doing." We now live in a society where Leftards can write whole plays fantasizing about assassinating a Republican president and nothing happens to them, but Leftards call the Secret Service when they hear someone say they don't like their president is doing. Kinda sounds like the old Soviet Union.

The secret service just has to take this stuff seriously. I imagine that MOST cases are never made public, for obvious reasons. But if somebody appears to be crossing that line then I think the secret service or FBI probably have to act, or it'll be seen as acceptable to publically threaten people in office, and that will make everyone's life a lot harder.

Easiest way to do that is go talk to those people associated with the possible threat, if known, and profile them (yes, that nasty word).
That's what they did, they concluded it was no viable threat, and they went home.
If they didn't so investigate all the threats against President Bush, shame on them, deriliction of duty.

But Monson's a different case. He's been arrested for vandalizing the state Capitol Building in Olympia, in addition to a domestic violence arrest in the Carolinas, if I recall.
He's not some dude mouthing off on TV. He's a violent punk who wouldn't think twice of assassinating Bush if he thought he could get away with it.

If he won't get in the ring, he should at least be a coach on the next The Ultimate Fighter reality show. "Hit back twice as hard! Hit back twice as hard!" He could bring in Michelle Guns Obama as a guest coach.

"guns"
Is that what the kids today are calling "thunder thighs"? Back in my day we used to call'em "useless fat asses".

Weaker than the president of FRANCE? America, you should be ashamed.

That's nonsense. To determine is something is "possible" means to weight whether the threat offers a "reasonable" level of success and viability. Otherwise if someone said "I'm going to call down my fleet of sentient asteroids to land on Obama's head" do you *really* think the USSS is "obligated" to go speak to this person? If so, we have bigger problems than I ever imagined, as like much of society it would appear that initiative, independent thought, and reasoned analysis and given way to a CYA zero-tolerance mentality so prevalent elsewhere in our ossified bureaucracies.

If such a statement could be construed to be a threat to anyone at all, then it could be construed as a threat to the president and should be taken as such.
"declared that he wanted to fight President Barack Obama for his next fight."
Fighters challenge others to fight. It's what they do. If challenging the president is a crime, then all the other challenges issued by fighters should be taken as such.

I wondered about that, too, and looked up an interview with the director, Gabriel Range. In it, he says that he got a call from the Secret Service when filming a motorcade scene in Chicago. He never got a visit, and he wasn't asked to give them a script.

The comparison to the Bush incident, with the assasinate Bush T shirt, is bogus, since advocating a violent assasination IS a threat, unlike advocating a voluntary wressling match that Obama can easily decline. Of course in the Assasinate Bush case you could still argue that it is not a SERIOUS violent threat, and could be meant in jest, but unlike the Volkman case it still is a violent threat.

Look, I think the man is a horrible President and want him out of office and back home in 2012, but it's important to blame him for things within his control to change, and not blame him for things he can't control or change.
