A Proxy War No More

For the second day in a row, ABC News targets Iran with another bombshell allegation (my bold):

Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld on Tuesday rejected suggestions Iraq is engulfed in a civil war but predicted there would be additional "bursts" of sectarian violence in the weeks ahead.
Rumsfeld also claimed that Iranian Revolutionary Guard elements had infiltrated Iraq to cause trouble.
"They are currently putting people into Iraq to do things that are harmful to the future of Iraq," he said. "And we know it. And it is something that they, I think, will look back on as having been an error in judgment."
He would not be more specific except to say the infiltrators were members of the Al Quds Division of Iran's Revolutionary Guards.

We know from yesterday that Iran is supplying Iraqi terrorists with sophisticated SCMs (shaped charge munitions) that can defeat the armor of even our heaviest tanks. It is this kind of charge that was responsible for the deaths of 14 Marines in their Iraqi interpreter last August near Haditha.

Now we have the Secretary of Defense stating that members of the elite al Quds division—the same unit that deployed elements to Afghanistan to assist the Taliban and roughly analogous to the Green Berets in usage if not quality—are actively fighting coalition forces in Iraq.

It is quite probable that this has not been a proxy war for some time, but instead a low-level special operations war. One has to wonder how and when the Iranian "error in judgement" will be corrected.

2 This is casus beli if I ever saw it. Particularly against Iraq. But war is politics by other means. If it's not politically wise to do anything then nothing will be done.

3 Iraqi fascist death squads commonly known as insugents are getting assitance from Iran to cause mayhem while Iran gets nuclear assistance from North Korea.

4 I've heard it said that they want us to take military action against them because they believe that it will strengthen their support domestically. You know, unite the people to the 'common foe'. It probably is as dumb as it sounds.

"They're in the area around Tikrit and Baghdad and east, west, south and north somewhat."

6 In Curt Weldon's book Countdown to terror he quotes his source Ali to the effect that the Iranians would be supplying the Iraqi terrorists with Shaped Charge weapons. I commented on this in an August 24,2005 article on my site Why the Able Danger story is important and why we must insist on an investigation!. Michael Leeden also long ago told of those sorts of weapons being imported into Iraq by the Iranians.

We have had plenty of warning that this was going to happen. But the Government just like it did prior to 9/11 has other fish to fry like CYA and the rest of the Bureaucratic nonsense that takes the place of actual work.

My prediction is nothing will come of this until a lot of us die....lots of us.

You might want to double check this but al Quds I believe is also known as "The Jerusalem Brigade" that our good friend President Ahmad-inejad headed up back in the 1980's.

If so, those cadres could almost be considered personal assassins - people loyal to him that he's sent into Iraq.

10 Why do you call them Iraqi terrorists? They were not part of 911... I thought when you went into another mans home and start killing his family members that makes you a murderer and him a victim? Since when does it make the man a terrorist and his home a terrorist haven? Oh.. ever since faith based "logic" became "cool" in the republicans camp? I see... up is down ...down is up...ok now I get it. Guilt is a bitch.

11 Oh, I see, so the Golden Dome was an American mosque then? And, all of the marketplaces, mosques, and infrastructure that are targeted don't belong to the Iraqis either, huh? And the Iraqi policemen and soldiers who get murdered? And the journalists and aid workers who get kidnapped and beheaded? These are all noble acts of self-defense, huh? How about when the bombers stake out an American medical convoy until it gets surrounded by Iraqi children and then blow it up? Nice to know who you're allied with, Gerald.
