Want to Change the World?
Well then, just buy it. That's what I've been telling people for years. If you want to preserve some area of wetland or forest, just buy the damn thing. Oh, and I mean that YOU should buy it, NOT government using my money.
The story linked above is about Douglas Tompkins and his buying of over half a million acres in Argentina because he wanted to save the wildlife, the wetlands, and the soil. Nicely done, Mr. Tompkins. What an excellent way to put your money where your mouth is. Of course, he's opposed by members of the left who believe that no person should own anything and that everything should be owned and controlled by the state. I'm thinking that we'll never learn, no matter how many times in human history we repeat it, that socialism fails every single time it's tried. The closest socialism has ever come to working is in a limited form, like we have in the country formerly known as the United States. Socialism works here because people have the illusion of freedom and really think that they own things. As long as the people are deluded, American socialism will continue to work. But again, what a great job by Mr. Tompkins. More people who have money and are just whining to use MY money should stand up and start spending that money to preserve what they want to preserve.
