United Methodist Church

Ogre used to be a member of the United Methodist Church. One day someone asked me to take a good, hard look at the church organization. I looked and asked questions -- and then I left that church. Why? Because not only does the church disagree with me, they were using my donations to the church to support causes that were actively working against me.

This church continues it's liberal actions, in active opposition to a free America.

This church supports homosexual unions, in direct conflict with the Bible. This church takes money from donations to individual churches and gives it to anti-gun groups that lobby to remove the right to bear arms. Now, the leaders of this church organization are claiming that America is the same as Nazi Germany.

Now while I'll agree that America is no longer the land of the free, and America is no longer a representative republic, that flag is still a symbol of freedom. But this example of the religious LEFT shows the utter contempt for not only America, but for freedom. These people honestly believe that only they can determine all that is good and right -- and it's not what you think is good and right.

But you make your own decisions when it comes to religion -- while you are still permitted by government to do so. I'm just suggesting that if you're a member of a church, take a good, long look at what that church is doing -- and not just on a local level, but look at their leaders on the national level: it's your money they're using for whatever they do. Unlike the US government, you can withhold your money when you disagree with their actions.

1 Ogre - at the last Synod, they voted AGAINST ordaining gays and gay unions. The vote was close, but it was against. I read the flag story, and that appears to be one individual - not the organization.

GWB and I are both still Methodists. There's SOME hope left!

2 But the National Council of Churches -- which cash from all Methodist donations go to -- gives money to gay and lesbian organizations. They also give money to the Brady Campaign and others who are working to take my gun rights away from me. That's a portion of every dollar collected in every donation plate in every Methodist church that's used for those purposes.

3 Ogre - then give to the building fund. Or the special donation for the food pantry.

To be a Methodist, you must support your church with 'your prayers, your praise, your presense and your gifts'.

Doesn't say who the gifts must go to!

4 That was suggested to me. But if I were to give my money to the building fund, then money that would have come from the general fund to pay that would instead be left in the general fund -- and forwarded to the aforementioned groups.

And that is the main reason I couldn't join as a member -- I couldn't commit to supporting the church with my gifts.
