Eminent Domain in NC

The NC Property Rights Coalition is reporting that HB878 has moved! Well, it's moved from one committee to another, so we'll see. A standard tactic of the Democrats who run the state government (and have for LITERALLY over 100 years) is to shift bills around they don't like and let them die in committee. That way the Democrats don't have to vote and go on record as opposing things people like, and they still get their way.

This time, however, the bill has gone to a committee that has as it's chairman a sponsor of the bill. So the bill SHOULD get a vote -- if the chairman (Dan Blue) really supports the bill. You see, if he signed on as a sponsor in order to claim he supports the bill, it will go nowhere. However, if he actually supports the bill, it will move quickly -- he gets to decide.

We shall wait and see if he supports the bill only because it will help him get re-elected.

1 Bigger problem is on the horizon... sorry... there are calls to rip this thing apart and contact your Senators ASAP

2 790 pages? I'm going to read that some more before I comment on it. I know it's bad -- and if what I've heard is right, it's REALLY, REALLY bad -- but I want to read and see the bad parts for myself, first. Thanks for the link!

3 We've also got a movement going to call and fax our representatives and senators in protest... so far the reception here in TN has been decent...only one voting for it.

We have threatened to send them a Mexican Flag if they vote for this bill. I also have an image up on my blog that people can copy to a fax to their representatives.

They are always saying they listen to the people... let's see how true that really is.

4 We've got a serious RINO in NC -- but she's up for election in 2008, so there's actually a little chance she might listen (Liddy Dole).

5 Regarding 878, hopefully the Senate will be on the same page as the House. Senator Smith and others have been pushing to restrain the inappropriately wide parameters of eminent domain; hopefully, their efforts will come to fruition.

6 I saw this made the crossover deadline, so there's at least some hope for it this year!
