ESPN Channels Jackie Robinson

"What would Jackie think?"

That's the title of John Helyar's politically charged ESPN article. It's a long article, but basically Mr. Helyar says that Jackie Robinson is a major-league racist who only views people based on the color of their skin -- and in addition, Jackie Robinson also would agree with Mr. Helyar who thinks that Major League Baseball should hire and fire people based on their skin color instead of their abilities.

John claims that Jackie Robinson would be upset that the best players are playing the game of baseball and that there aren't more black-skinned people, regardless of their physical abilities.

Then Mr. Helyar goes on to complain that "lily white executives" aren't spending their money the way Mr. Helyar personally thinks they should. He doesn't give an exact amount, but he complains that they're not spending enough of their money (not his) on "marketing to the black community."

Next he complains that black people have the nerve to focus on basketball instead of baseball and that's why there's not as many black baseball players. And in the world according to John Helyar, apparently these black people shouldn't be free to choose the sport they want to play in -- they should choose their sports preferences as only he believes they should. Again, he's not specific in the exact percentage of blacks that should play each sport.

He quotes Jules Tygiel, a "Robinson scholar," who thinks that Major League baseball should immediately start turning away people who are good baseball players that have white skin in favor of others. He doesn't name if he specifically wants Jason Giambi or someone else to be replaced with players with black skin.

Oh, and the fact that MLB is ALREADY spending money on racist acts to specifically exclude people of white skin with things like the $10 million "urban youth" facility doesn't matter.

When you have racists like John Helyar, it's NEVER enough. Blatant racists like this always want more -- and they want more of someone else's money, they don't want to work for it at all. We need to call these people what they are -- blatant racists with an agenda only to steal from others.
