The BBQ Tax

What a surprise. French-speaking politicians want to tax something. This time it's "barbequing." That's right, any time you have a BBQ in your backyard, you're going to have to pay 20 Euros. You better hope North Carolina politicians don't get wind of this one -- they'd make billions from that sort of tax.

But even better is the logic and reasoning of the left. The left honestly believes that they're implementing this tax to reduce CO2 emissions. They claim that a BBQ produces 50 grams of CO2. So they're going to reduce CO2 by taxing people for having a BBQ, hoping that by creating this tax people will stop having BBQs and therefore produce less CO2.

So how will they enforce this new law? With helicopter patrols.

According to New Zealand news sources, the average helicopter produces 28 KG of CO2 for one person for one hour of flight. Presumably these new helicopter enforcement patrols will have at least 2 people -- one to fly and one to look for the illegal BBQs. So that's 5,600 grams of CO2 that will be produced EACH HOUR. In order for their to be a net decrease in CO2 emissions, this patrol will have to catch over 110 illegal BBQs EVERY HOUR they are in flight. Anything less and there will be a net INCREASE in CO2 emissions.

Yes, this is what passes for logic for those on the left: government increasing CO2 emissions will cause an overall reduction in CO2 because people won't be creating the CO2. Apparently government-produced CO2 is good, while subject- peon- citizen-produced CO2 is bad. I bet they think their poop doesn't stink, too.

1 Sometimes I wish I was a better artist... I can picture the cartoons in my head but getting them from there to the paper is impossibly... at least in a form where others would recognize what they represent.

Looney, looney, looney.

2 I'm with you -- this is screaming for an editorial cartoon, but I have trouble drawing stick figures.

4 see WHY I say you make me think? I wouldn't have thought about the C02 emissions of the enforcement helicopters compared to the bar-b-que's.

5 in related news, 17 French army officers surrendered to a back yard BBQ after hearing a loud bang... turns out it was just a car backfiring, but the captain in charge of the unit wasn't going to take any chances

6 I cannot draw stick figures either, but I think these politicians should have curtains installed in their stomach, so they can open the curtains occasionally to see where they are going.

8 Kender, you're not supposed to think about the helicopter emissions. Those are "good" CO2 gases because the government produces them.

Chris, I'm sure there would be an issue with the French surrendering to various people. I wonder how many helicopters they have?

Thanks, everyone, for stopping by!
