Bush Works on 51st State

President Bush was in Mexico today, talking to el Presidente Felipe Calderon. Bush asked Felipe if he would consider being a governor instead of a president. Bush appeared to promise him huge piles of cash if he would consider the offer.

Meanwhile, Calderon said that he wasn't going to do anything about drugs at all. He simply complained that Americans wanted drugs, so his country was going to provide them. He said that he would stop producing drugs when America stopped buying them.

Next, Calderon complained about the imaginary border fence. He was very insistent that Bush stop construction of any fence between the two countries. What I want to know is why Bush didn't ask WHY? Well, I know why Bush didn't ask -- because Bush doesn't want a fence either! Since Mexico is just another state, there's no reason to have a fence there. But no one else seemed to ask WHY Calderon didn't want a fence between our two alleged countries.

It's pretty clear why -- he wants his people to have free and unfettered access to all the cash they can get from the United States government. And that's wrong. The quickest, easiest way to create a new border between these once countries is to absolish ALL cash to non-citizens: no school, no healthcase, no housing, no food stamps -- nothing.

But that would require guts and the desire for freedom, so I'm not holding my breath.

1 Not only that, Calderon took no responsibility for ANYTHING, including the immigration problems. He basically said it was ALL the U.S.' responsibility.

As for the other, I'd be amenable if it didn't cost too much. The border between Mexico and Central America would be a lot shorter to build a fence across. All those Mexicans that are coming here anyway, would get automatic citizenship, schools, and possibly learn what freedom is since they would be required to learn something about their new country's history (small hope since the libs are rewriting history all the time but still...). On top of that, it would topple the fascist totalitarian regime the prevents most Mexicans from getting decent jobs and educations... at least until the Dems get back into the presidency... and all those companies that moved South of the Border would be back to paying U.S. income tax and be subject to fair wage laws of this country again. We'd also get Mexico's small oil reserves to add to what we already have.

I don't have anything against Mexicans, per se, so I could live with that happening.

2 And just think -- we'd get to collect taxes from the few Mexicans that did work.

But enforcing the drug laws would be a bit tough -- which might mean the state of Mexico would pass it's own drug laws, legalizing drugs, and collecting even more taxes from that trade...

3 They're getting that anyway, so what would be different?

4 I love the idea of Statehood for countries like Mexico. But consider what happened to the once great County, West Germany. They reunited with the former communist nation of East Germany and ruined their economy and became just another socialist state. I suspect that much the same thing would happen to us if we could get Mexico as a state. The additional strain on our system would be overwhelming. Yes, it would dramatically improve the lives of the Mexican people. They would suddently have rights, which they do not now have. But the Dem party would rule for the short remainder of our time as a country. Look what motor-voter did to us here, by allowing illegals to vote. And these are the hard-working people motivated enough to leave Mexico and come here to get jobs. Think about those who stayed home. What will they want? A free ride? And how would they vote? If there were some way to make them understand where wealth comes from, that you cannot vote yourself other people's money forever, then perhaps we could do it. Otherwise, NO.

5 I wonder if the socialism would creep to the US, or if the system would finally go bankrupt under the strain of trying to suddenly bring tens of millions of third-world residents up to our standard. Certainly every single business there would be out of business in a day because they couldn't pay minimum wage. Every restaurant would be shut down for not meeting our health standards. And I think the sudden, massive bills to the US would be enough to ruin socialism. It might just destroy the US and we'd go back to having independent states. And we could join together in a union with limited government...

6 That last post bears a lot of thinking... or dare I say hoping?

7 That's a bit selfish of us to expect Mexico to curtail its two largest cash producing exports, isn't it? What little of an economy they have would probably crash if not for drugs and illegals.

8 That's a good point, Dana. I bet their economy would completely crash without our cash.
