NC Legisature to Ban Guns
Despite judges having recently ruled that U.S. citizens DO happen to have the right to own a gun (protected by that pesky second amendment), Democrats in North Carolina will not stop. They don't like guns. They don't like them not because they don't like hunting, but because they don't want their enemy (the people) to be capable of shooting them.
However, North Carolina is a generally rural state. Guns bans don't go over too well in this state, despite what the "planners" and "image-conscious" want. So if the Democrats in Raleigh actually admitted they didn't like guns, the people who just press that "D" button because they don't know any better might actually not press that "D" button. So the Democrats have to lie and hide in order to get their real agenda passed.
This time it's Senate Bill 8 that they have chosen as their vehicle. This bill is an end run around the concealed carry bill that slipped past them a few years back. The way they want to render the concealed carry bill worthless is to simply make it so you can't actually USE the permit anywhere. And of course, the bill is titled completely (and intentionally) with a deceptive title: "Expand Safe Zones." A more accurate title could be "Expand predator zones."
The bill would make it a felony to drive your car (if you happened to have a firearm in it) down a road with two schools on it. You could be on the interstate going 75mph, but if you passed "too close" to two schools, you'd be a FELON. Oh, and if that's not enough for you, the way the law is written, you could be considered a FELON if you drive too close to a MCDONALDS with your firearm. And that's not exaddgeration, that's what's in the damn bill.
Now, you just try and picture where you will be permitted to drive your car with your firearm if you exclude 1000 feet from every fast-food restaurant in the state, every park, every school or "educational facility," and any "child care" facility. That's right, this bill would effectively make anyone a felon who actually carried a firearm anywhere in the state other than their own backyard (except those who lived near a McDonalds -- you'd be felons in your own yard).
And even worse, the Democrats know this is a bad bill, so they're playing games with it. They sent it to committee without reading it on the floor. They know that there are many groups who are watching them and will strongly oppose this blatant gun ban. So they've hidden the bill in a committee without reading it on the floor -- this is a setup so they can, at literally any moment, bring the bill to the floor for a reading. They will do this when they think no one is looking, or perhaps, like the lottery, when certain legislators are "absent."
I want honesty in government. I want freedom. I'm obviously asking WAY too much from Democrats in North Carolina.

Smart move.

And David, they just hate guns. They don't want to take any chances that people might use them in rebellion. And they absolutely CANNOT admit it.

If they don't stop and think about what they are doing to whom, they might just find themselves in a position of having to defend their lives.

And they are thinking, Steph, and they know they might have to defend themselves -- that's why they want to disarm the people, so they don't have to defend themselves against firearms. Seriously.

They're counting on the majority to obey the rules. If they keep making things worse little by little, they hope to make it so the population will be disarmed. Look how many people turn in guns when they have "buy back" programs.
