Banned in China?

Want to know if your site has been ruled "unacceptable" by the Communist Chinese government? Head over to Great Firewall of China and check. Alas, either I'm not offensive enough, or I'm just too insignificant to have been banned by those freedom-hating government agents. But I couldn't help but notice both Pirate's Cove and Bad Example managed to make the Officially Unapproved Red List. How about your site (or your favorite?)

1 LOL... I wouldn't care if it was. We spend so much time banning IPs from our webserver, they wouldn't be able to see anything anyway. Pretty soon, the whole country's IP range will be banned if they don't let up on the attempted hacks and spamming.

2 well... I checked it out just for the fun of it... seems every site I own is blocked, including the web hosting services site. LOL... I suppose it's to be expected... tit for tat, you know?

3 I'm blocked. It's kind of nice knowing the Chinese know I exist.

Does it give you warm fuzzies?

5 I'm just jealous. I wonder what one has to do to offend the Communists and get noticed by them...

6 I am blocked.

7 That's only because you're almost an elected official...

Post your link on a couple of their sites and you'll get banned or spammed real quick. If it's spammed, start blocking their ips from your site and eventually you'll be like the rest of us. As I said, eventually, we'll have the whole IP range for China blocked (spammers and hackers) so it doesn't matter to me that they blocked us, lol... even if we weren't they still wouldn't see our sites. It certainly doesn't seem to slow them down from attempting to spam us.

9 I wouldn't mind allowing the actual citizens in China seeing my site. The incredible freedom might scare the you-know-what out of them, but freedom can be scary -- especially to those who don't have it and have never seen it.

10 Not sure if I am actually blocked, I keep getting error "cannot find URL." Lots of blocks with Dreamhost. Going to keep trying, that would be two of the largest countries, population wise, in the world that I am banned in

11 I wonder if we can get Pirate's Cove banned in the US. I bet the Democrats would love to... maybe I'll check some local Democrat-run library filters...

12 Man, I feel unwanted ... they are allowed to see my site ....

13 Silly communists.

14 I'd like to be banned in France. Or Iran. Not much difference, other then cheese.

Posted by: William Teach at March 13, 2007 03:02 PM (cuTsc)

15 PS: Dreamhost themselves are banned in China. Basil's Blog gets through, but a couple other using dreamhost get the same thing, cannot find URL. Might have to try the old Proxy IP thang.

Posted by: William Teach at March 13, 2007 03:03 PM (cuTsc)

16 I think you're banned in France -- mainly because they can't afford electricity in most places. And does Iran even have algore's internet (TM)?

Posted by: Ogre at March 13, 2007 03:19 PM (oifEm)

17 Well, Al Gore is rooting for the same side as Iran does.....

I have tried the proxy IP thing with Iran, and the forum I play on at NJ.com is blocked. The whole domain is blocked. But The Jawa Report? Accessible in Iran.

18 Well, since algore is helping them, you know their intelligence level isn't going up...

19 Turns out I'm blocked. BTW, it's not because of Dreamhost; Basil's Blog is hosted at Network Solutions now. But ItsAPundit is at Dreamhost, and it's available. So it looks like they're not banning all Dreamhost. Just offenders, like Pirate's Cove and such.

20 And people named Basil. I think that's one of their criteria.

Posted by: Ogre at March 14, 2007 11:06 AM (oifEm)

21 I'm not banned. Hmmm... I can only guess why I'm allowed in. ;-)

22 Because you have a small dog...

and they're hungry.

Posted by: Ogre at March 21, 2007 11:12 AM (oifEm)

23 No warm fuzzies for me, either. They let me in. Hmmm, I wonder if Chinese food tastes the same in China as it does in the states?

24 Less salt, more dog.

25 I'm blocked too. I knew there was a reason I never get any hits. That has to be it.

Posted by: sticks at March 21, 2007 10:36 PM (HuqAm)

26 Sounds reasonable to me!
