Jesus' Tomb

I just read another article about this "Tomb of Jesus" movie. This article is rather critical and blasts Cameron as "Cameron on Jesus is like Hefner on abstinence." Do you mean that there's people who are taking this seriously?

Have you people never heard of P.T. Barnum? Never heard of Snake Oil Salesmen? It's called "sensationalism," and it's about making money! Folks, it's not real. It's like the dog-faced boy and the "world's smallest woman" who can fit in the palm of your hand. It's amazing to me that people can really take this sort of silliness seriously.

Well, I guess it is true, "There's a Sucker Born Every Minute."

1 Even as an atheist with no theological ax to grind, I think this movie is nothing but Cameron's version of Britney shaving her head.

2 Now there's a pleasant visual. Thanks for that.

3 Well, I didn't see the DaVinci Code also mentioned in the article and I probably won't see Cameron's take on the tomb of Jesus. I fail to understand how the possibility of Jesus being married changes anything else about his life on earth... except perhaps in some small way to the Catholic Church and I doubt it has much affect on them either. I fail to see how being married changes the life lessons he set forth and the fact that he died by crucifixion rather than recant those lessons; life lessons that were continued through his apostles, many of whom were also crucified at some point in time.

Atheist or theist, you've got to remember the Bible is written by imperfect humans, mostly as a guide to life and living a good one. In and of itself, it can no more prove God's existence any more than science can disprove it. But... I'd rather count on the Bible as a guide than any other book ever made.

Cameron's attempt is patently clear to be no more than a plunger to ram athiesm down the throats of believers as well as rake in dollars. I would suppose Hollywood is more concerned over the lack of influence they thought they had than they would like us to believe. Regardless of whether one believes in God or not, humans will find something or someone to deify and Hollywood can't be happy that it isn't it.

For myself, I prefer to believe in God rather than deify anything or anyone else. Neither will I get into great arguments one way or the other. If people choose not to believe there is nothing I can say to dissuade them.

Remember the movie "Contact" with Jodie Foster? In the end, the unbelieving scientist in her had to admit that you just have to take some things on faith. Also, remember a beginning line uttered by Matthew McConaghey... "Has science made people happier?" Really happier? Considering the topsy-turviness of current events, I think it's highly unlikely.

4 I'm just really amazed that people are even looking at this "discovery" as something that could possibly be true. It's clearly and obviously a side show and nothing more. Maybe Cameron is trying to ram atheism down people's throats, but I'm amazed anyone would even take him seriously -- HE'S A MOVIE MAKER! THEY MAKE STUFF UP! THAT'S WHAT THEY DO!

6 Good post, smokey. I'll have to check your blog often so I can hear your interview on the talk radio station.

7 Yeah, he's a movie maker but is trying to capitalize on the fact that Hollywood does make historical and fact based movies too. But that's just the thing... fact based doesn't mean completely factual... they're always hyped up in some way. Problem is, a lot of ordinary easily swayed people are going to be duped.

8 It's unfortunate that so many people are stupid enough to believe the hucksters. Then again, I guess that's a product of government education for you.

9 Well, this movie still might be interesting. Let's wait and see.

10 Well P.T. Barnum's shows were interesting, too. Smoke, mirrors, and jokes, but interesting.

11 I'll take the Bible's Word as to the resurrection of my Lord Jesus.

12 Steph - I am sorry I did not reply to you sooner, but the issue at stake here is not whether or not Christ was married. If in fact anyone was to find his remains, it would disprove the resurrection, and without that, Christianity is gone. You see, THE central tenet of Christianity is that Christ died on the cross, was buried, ROSE ON THE THIRD DAY, and then ascended to Heaven without dying again. If his remains are on earth, then that is false, and he was not divine, therefore ALL of Christianity is phony, which is, by the way, the goal of Hollyweird, to cause people to question Christianity, and therefore ALL morality.

13 Indeed, AOW. No point in gawking at the sideshow!

And Smokey, I think that's a side benefit (in their minds) -- they want money, that's their god. They worship money and will do literally anything to obtain it. If they can bring down some Christians in their pursuit of cash, they're happy to do so.
