Billions in Free Cash for Criminals

Apparently California continues unabated on it's path towards total socialism. They are now proposing that taxpayers give away billions of dollars to anyone who has the good luck of being born inside the state's borders.

I'm betting if this passes, there will be a surge in babies born at hospitals at or near the borders of the state (in all directions). Of course, there's absolutely NO residence requirements for this massive giveaway.

They're claming the bill will "increase savings." Well, DUH. It will increase savings because the state will be forcing taxpayers to save money FOR OTHER PEOPLE, whether they want to or not. No, it won't increase responsibility one bit -- in fact, it will DECREASE responsibility -- which is a hallmark of today's liberalism/socialist Democrat Party.

People should save money. Of that, there's no question. You should save money for your "retirement," you should save money to pay for sudden, unexpected expenses, and you should save money if you have planned expenses in the future. A responsible person will save money for just such reasons. If a person does NOT save money, they should be held just as responsible -- by not allowing them to have a retirement, or nice things they want (like a college education). Whether government should be involved with savings is questionable. Perhaps they could encourage it -- at the very least, they shouldn't punish it (as they do now).

This bill, however, does the exact opposite. This bill encourages people NOT to save because the government will take care of them! Why save for retirement when the government will give you free medical benefits and free retirement cash? Why save for college education when government wants to make it free for you? With this bill, everyone gets a free college education (paid for by taxpayers, of course). Why save for large, unexpected medical expenses when the government ensures you will get all the free medicine you want?

This bill does one thing, and one thing only -- and this is the absolute intent of those who introduced the bill: it makes people MORE dependent on government. It's a hand out, no matter how many times they lie and claim it's a "hand up." It's total socialism and it's completely and totally wrong in any sort of a free country -- which California is clearly not.

1 Actually, there are a lot of holes in that bill, the main one being, what happens when these illegals take the money and run back to the country of origin? Of course the state can't do without so more taxes will be raised to offset the abuse of the system.

2 Correct. There's no requirements that you have to spend the money the state gives you in that state at all. I wonder how many people from NV will have their kids in a CA hospital now.

3 Take from my savings (via taxes) and give it to the babies. THAT is socialism. NO THANKS.

4 And that's what socialists WANT.

8 Currently a powerful catergory 4 cyclone with sustained winds near 150 mph, the storm is expected to maintain its strength or potentially even strengthen some more before making landfall on the Bangladeshi coast some time tomorrow. Cyclones in this region have historically generated devastating storm surges in the very low lying coastal nation which have resulted in enormous loss of life (several instances where deaths numbered in the hundreds of thousands). This looks to be just about as close to a worst case scenario for this already vulnerable region as can be imagined–10,000,000 people live along the immediate coast near where the storm will likely make landfall. Hopefully this won’t turn out to be quite as bad as some are prognosticating, but given the look of things right now, the situation looks very grim, indeed....

9 Tropical Cyclone Sidr, hovering over the Bay of Bengal, was moving towards Bangladesh's southern coastal districts, on the border with India, and likely to hit land later Thursday, said Bazlur Rashid of the Bangladesh weather department. Chittagong airport and sea port were also closed, officials said. In 1970, some half a million people died when a cyclone hit the impoverished country, while an estimated 138,000 people died as a result of a cyclonic tidal wave in 1991....Original...

10 A man suspected of involvement in the murder of exchange student Meredith Kercher is due to appear in court in Germany. Rudy Hermann Guede was arrested for travelling without a ticket on a train near Wiesbaden. Italian detectives had launched a manhunt for Guede, who has dual Italian and Ivory Coast nationality, after finding a bloody fingerprint in the apartment in Perugia where 21 year old Miss Kercher was murdered earlier this month. The print matched none of the three suspects police had in custody, and it was reported they used an internet sting to try to lure Guede back to Italy. A spokesman for German prosecutors in Koblenz, who have taken over Guede's case, said a judge would rule whether or not he can be kept in custody on the Italian warrant. If the judge orders him to be detained, Koblenz prosecutors will begin...
