Doctors need government watching

So says the Charlotte Observer. Their latest hit piece demands, wait for it, more money to be spent by government. It's pretty much their standard editorial. I think they have a Word template that looks something like this:

*** Start Template
_____________________ (insert scary thing here) is getting worse! More and more participants in this activity might possible get hurt. In fact, if you even so much as talk to these people, you might get hurt or even killed. Currently, the government is (not/lightly/somewhat) regulating this industry. But (hundreds/thousands/billions) of people could be saved from potential injury and death if there were more regulation. The ___________ (make up new, cool sounding name) commission, formed by Democrats, has suggested that there should be more oversight and regulation for safety.

(Note: leave out all references to freedom of choice and all references to any costs associated with enormous government monitoring of things which free people should be allowed to do).
*** End Template

And it doesn't even have to make sense to make it into print. This complaint is that doctors aren't regulated and therefore people shouldn't trust them. I guess the Observer missed the latest survey on who they trust with ethics and honesty the most -- for Doctors, 69% of people thought they were very highly trusted. Journalists? Only 26% thought they were highly ethical.

1 A better solution would be to stop allowing hospitals to treat new doctors as a source of cheap labor. Doctors often begin their careers working absurdly long hours for very little money. This creates a situation where the least experienced doctors are required to make complex medical decisions on very little sleep. This is an enormous source of malpractice suits.

2 Instead, I'd like to see freedom. Let the doctors and the hospitals do as they like. If the doctors don't want to work long hours, let them find a hospital that offers them that. But that would require freedom and LESS government, so that's not going to happen, is it?

3 Ever think they'll insert abortion for a category? Nevermind.

4 I won't be surprised when Democrat government agents start ordering doctors to perform abortions -- like they have in England.
