Drums and Drones

Another of the "smaller" acts at the Carolina Renaissance Festival -- smaller only in that they don't appear on a main stage, but instead appear at a smaller section -- is the Drums and Drones. These guys play lots of neat music. I could sit and listen to these guys for hours -- only they seem to get tired of playing much quicker than I get tired of listening.

For bonus points, can anyone identify that instrument on the left? (And yes, it's a drone, but what kind?)

1 Well, he's definitely not a Borg or Star Fleet drone. And he's definitely not attained the rank of lesser Wizard. So I'm stumped.

Do these guys have Cd's for sale? Hmmmmm, I wonder if I start chanting "audio clip please... audio clip please", if others will join me?

2 I'm betting you might have never seen one of those in person, but there was a semi-famous song in the 60s about it...

3 I'm sorry, you meant the instrument... duh!
I believed it's called a sitar.

4 No, the sitar is much larger and longer. Note his right hand -- it's turning a crank.

5 Histories of ages past
Unenlightened shadows cast
Down through all eternity
The crying of humanity

'Tis then when the hurdy gurdy man
Comes singing songs of dope

Am I right? Am I right?
