Tangled Webs of Government

When government gets too big, as it clearly is now, it gets more and more messy. Remember, government earns and creates NOTHING -- it can ONLY get money to spend if it takes that money from someone who IS productive and creating. Keep that in mind as you read this confusion:

The authority's board of directors voted 8-3 to support state legislation that would dispose of the lawsuit challenging the city's downtown convention center plan and - at the same time - cut about $290,000 a year from the money it uses to attract tourists to the area. The legislation would take effect July 1, 2007.

So the state and town are using taxpayer money to defend against lawsuits and create lawsuits and fund advertising for tourism and for lobbying the state legislature and for building a convention center. The state and town should not being doing a single one of those things -- none.

But the supporters of this action believe the town won't have a convention center unless this convoluted law passes -- but so what? Why MUST the town have a convention center that is paid for by taxpayers? ONLY because government is too big and causes itself to grow and feed upon itself. It's wrong, plain and simple -- but it's so convoluted and confused now that it likely won't stop without a violent revolution.
