No Freedom For You
Want a beer? Sorry, you can't have one if you're on a river in Polk County, NC. Why? Well, because alcohol is simply evil -- at least that's pretty much the reason given by those who support a new law that would do just that.
In fact, this law should be rather embarrassing to the police in the area. They are claiming that they cannot find the people who are drinking under age; they cannot locate the people who are littering; they cannot find the people who are fighting; and they cannot find the people who are smoking drugs and driving drunk -- so they are completely unable to enforce those laws. However, if government would just make this one more law -- providing a $50 fine for possession of alcohol -- then suddenly they'd be able to enforce all the other laws. No, you idiots calling for this law, you are stupid. The ONLY people you will fine with this law are the ones who are peacefully carrying beer! You can't seem to find all the current lawbreakers, so you're just going to create MORE so you can fine THEM. Anyone who supports this law, no matter who or why, is admitting that they are incapable of enforcing the current laws and need to make MORE criminals so they can enforce new laws against people who haven't done anything wrong -- at least not yet. More laws are nearly always a BAD idea. This law will simply make more people lawbreakers -- regardless of whether or not it will make the river "a nicer place." Very unfortunately, this law appears that it will quite easily pass the NC legislature.
