Age-Based Tax System

A tax system that punishes the productive and rewards the lazy (as the current US Tax system does) is bad. Politicians for years have been using the tax system to punish and reward those they like. They've been using it to determine who is "good" and who is "bad" and to shape social policy. That's not the purpose of the tax system.

Now, in Onslow county, NC, they want the General Assembly to give them permission to charge taxes based on a person's AGE. That's right, if you just happen to be the incorrect age, you will be charged MORE taxes. Oh, but it's for the poor (TM), so it's ok. It's only going to punish those who can "afford it," so if you oppose this, you oppose the poor.

Hey socialist, controlling, manipulative bastards (that would be the Onslow county board of commissioners), how about reducing EVERYONE'S taxes, instead of just punishing those who happen to be the wrong age? This is SO far from what this government was intended to be. Oh, how I yearn for freedom.

1 One day, the people who are actually making the money and being taxed off their asses are going to rise up.

It will happen, one day.

And the welfare people and politicans are going to be scared.

2 How about a tax system that is truely fair? Say, a sales tax, or just a flat rate tax?

Wait, I'm sorry, I forgot where I was for a minute. Anyone know any good accountants out there for when I'm a rich lawyer?

3 I don't see it in my lifetime, QW -- too many people just sit back and ignore what's going on around them. As long as they get little Johnny to soccer practice and have cheap gasoline, they're happy -- most don't seem to notice the massive amounts taken from every paycheck.

4 I give it less than 10 years until a full blown shooting civil war breaks out in the U.S. I had it at 25 years, 5 years ago, but am bringing it down at the same rate the SS system is safe hype. They reduce the safe until date 2-3 years every year. I'm also betting the SS system will go bust in less than 10 years. If a democrat is elected in 08, reduce the time left by 50%.

5 Certainly I can agree with the SS system going to crap -- same with Medicare -- but I just don't see the shooting war.

I think the socialists and other big-government types are too good. They know well enough not to present a target. If there's a shooting civil war, who is on which side? Freedom fighters vs. who? Government? What government? Who, specifically, can anyone rebel against? I think that's the biggest reason that another civil war is unlikely.

I think the only way a shooting war will break out is if the government starts it -- and I think they are unwilling to do that. I could be wrong.

6 Yeah, I don't see a shooting war. I have thought I'd have no issues immigrating if I had to. My kin came here over 250 years ago. While I still think its the best place to live, the minute I don't, I don't have issues with taking off and not looking back. I have a lot to offer a country.

7 But immigrate to where -- that's the problem.

8 I haven't figured that out yet... which is why I'm still here. ;-) It's still the best country.

9 And that's just sad, knowing how much better it really could be.
