State Bribery Challenged

The lawsuit still continues over the discussion of whether the state of North Carolina is permitted to use taxpayer money to pay bribes. The lawyers for the recipient of the bribe has asked the courts to allow bribes to continue and to throw out the lawsuit.

At issue is the bribe North Carolina paid in 1996 to Dell Computer Corporation. The state bribed the company with taxpayer money so that the company would locate in North Carolina. The amount of cash spent on the bribe was about $300 million.

Even worse, the lawyers who are arguing that the bribery should be allowed don't want the case dismissed because bribery's good -- but because ruling that bribery is wrong "would send a message nationally - and even more importantly in this day and age - internationally, that North Carolina is no longer friendly to business."

So, according to these scum lawyers, bribery is fine as long as it makes people think you're friendly. Go ahead, try and convince me there's a use for lawyers (sorry, OddyBobo).
