Government has Unlimited Funds
Wouldn't it be nice to be a city? Just imagine this situation:
You buy a really expensive car. The payments are really more than you can afford, but it's a really nice car. You go out to eat every Friday, just putting the bill on your credit card, making that monthly minimum payment. Eventually, you get a second mortgage on your house so you can pay off those credit card bills. Then you use the credit cards for some more entertainment, like buying nice season tickets to the local sports team. Come the end of the month, you simply don't have enough money to pay all your bills. So, you just head on to work like you do every day and you demand that your employer give you a pile of cash to pay your bills. No, you're not going to actually DO anything extra -- in fact, you're going to need some more time off to go pay the bills in person -- but you just demand the money. You promise to work more "later" to make up for the cash. How many of you wouldn't be immediately laughed at or fired (presuming you're not a union member)? Well, this is exactly what the City of Detroit is doing now. They've overspent their money, so they just demand more. No, they're not claiming to ask for more taxes, just another "loan" that will magically be paid back without tax money. But hey, this is today's government in America. The people who currently run the government honestly believe they have an utterly, completely unlimited source of money to spend any time and anywhere they want. They cannot comprehend running out of money because they can always demand more. Oh how I yearn for freedom. (Hat tip to Charlotte John Locke Foundation Blog).

Since Detroit re-elected the "hip-hop" mayor it was only a matter of time befoe they went bankrupt.
Detroit hates the suburbs and feel "the whitey's" of the suburbs are only out to get the citizens of Detroit so Detroit should be paid for having to put up with "the whiteys"
I am so sick of Detroit boo hooing about their financial troubles when they are the ones causing the problems.
They were trying to finance a raise for the city by raising the water rates of the suburbs only (we get our water through the detroit water system), they didn't want to raise the water rates in Detroit for their residents, just "the whitey's".
Hardly anyone in Detroit pays their water bills, so raising their rates isn't going to get them anymore money. Detroit annually has $5 million in unpaid water bills by it's own residents.
They just want the suburbs to pay for them because its "owed" them.
Detroit is a laughing stock in the suburbs, nobody takes the mayor seriously in the burbs either.
Someone just needs to drop a bomb on Detroit and let us start over.

Oh, you're just trying to put down the black man...
It's like this in every big city that I've seen. The people inside the city dislike all the people who have LEFT the city because they didn't like it.
Many are like Charlotte -- actively trying to work to stop people from having freedom by trying to force them back into the city. ALL of them depend on those who do not live there to pay for their excesses. Maybe Detroit will collapse upon itself and some other cities will learn -- but I'm not holding my breath.
