Government Begets Government
North Carolina's going to have a lottery soon. No, it's not a lottery that will do anything at all for education, despite the blatant lie of a name -- it's called the "North Carolina Education Lottery." However, the state knows that by creating a lottery that they are going to be taking advantage of people and that they will create more dependents -- and that's one reason they are doing this.
The lottery law requires North Carolina "State mental health administrators" to create a program to help those who get addicted. And yes, the proceeds of the lottery will pay for the "gambler assistance." The state wants to create training programs, ceritifications, treatment centers, and 12-step programs. They're freely admitting, and indeed seem to be overjoyed that this state program (a tax on the stupid and poor) will not only bring in more money to the general fund to be spent on whatever they like, it will have a side benefit of making even more people destitute and dependent on government. I don't know how these people sleep at night, knowing they're intentionally enslaving more and more people every day.
