Kill and Die
Joe Carter, over at The Evangelical Outpost, when responding to a commenter on his post about Abortion laws in SD, made quite an interesting proposition that might make you think a little (maybe not).
First, to set the question up -- it's about abortion, so steel your nerves now. Joe's post was talking about the law being passed in SD that would basically ban all abortions. The usual arguments and abortion-related comments showed up, and then the old "exception for rape and incest" showed up. Joe proposed quite a solution:When a child is aborted because a rape-induced pregnancy, the rapist must also be killed. If the situation warrants the taking of an innocent life, then justice demands that we also take the life of the guilty.
Would you vote for that law? Be sure to think a little before you answer, please. (Linked to Cao's Open Trackbacks).

Personally, I'm of the "put the rapist through nine months of hell" camp, but yes, I would vote for the bill.
Seriously, though, the argument against capital punishment is that people can be rehabilitated. It doesn't make sense unless the criminal can be returned to society with little or no chance of the crime being repeated.
A man who kills his business rival might be "persuaded" through logic, threats, or guilt, but a rapist is someone who is out of control. He cannot be rehabilitated because he cannot stop himself. His hatred towards women, and towards himself, has left him without any control.
I would sign the law. I would kill the rapist.

One heck of an arguement Joe makes. How could a person dispute it except through the "It's only tissue and not a real human" line...
Death penalty for rape? Bet the perp would think twice before commiting the crime.

I see a lot less rapes and a lot more murders or disappearing girls with that law.....

So you're weighing in against it, then Kender?
