Eminent Domain Supporters in NC
The executive director of the "North Carolina League of Municipalities," one Ellis Hankins, comes out in support of eminent domain and the Kelo vs. New London decision.
When asked about getting a constitutional amendment that would make it clear that government would not be allowed to take private property for economic development, he said that he opposed any such move because "it's not needed." Supporting him on the total socialist party line is Steve Rose, staff attorney at the General Assembly. He says that nobody much cares if you get in there and knock down a slum," referring to the state laws that allow government to take property in blighted areas for redevelopment. Obviously, Mr. Rose hasn't visited Charlotte where the city council routinely condemns any place they want to take for their own uses, whether it be for government development or as kickbacks and paybacks to big political donors and their friends. Freedom takes yet another hit in North Carolina with strong agreement to crush said freedom by numerous people in various walks of life. Oh, how I yearn for freedom.
