One RINO Down
In the recent history of North Carolina politics, there have been a number of people who were elected to be Republicans, but did not behave as Republicans -- voting for Democrats, voting for massive tax increases, and supporting Democrats in general to get favors.
One of those, John Sauls, has announced that he will not seek re-election in 2006. I just have two words: Good Riddance. You see, in 2003 the Republicans had a majority in the House. One member changed sides from Republican to Democrat AFTER THE ELECTION, making the chamber split. 5 other Republicans brokered deals, most involving large amounts of cash, to ensure that a Democrat would get to rule the chamber. One of those 5 was John Sauls. Mr. Sauls was also one of the primary sponsors of a bill that would give large amounts of free cash to admitted, unpunished, ongoing criminals -- the bill that would have give illegal immigrants free college tuition. Now Mr. Sauls is a pastor and he claims his reason for quitting is so he can spend more time in his church. Perhaps that's a good idea, Mr. Sauls -- you clearly don't understand Republican politics.
