A Simple Comparison
Elected Government Official:
Convicted of lying to a grand jury. His response: nothing. His punishment: zero. Non-elected Government Official: Suspected/accused of lying to a grand jury. His response: quickly resign. His punishment: pilloried in the press before even being convicted; loss of job; likely end of a career. Why the difference? Because the elected government official was a Democrat and a close friend of the press, while the non-elected official was a Republican, hated by the press. So, what have the Republicans learned from the Scooter affair? Likely nothing, but they should learn just to never talk to the press. Ever. Republicans, the press is NOT your friend. No matter how nice they are, keep in mind that they really do hate you -- because you are Republican.

A Dem would tell you it isn't a double standard, but merely status quo. Afterall, Repubs. supposedly have all the power right?

I don't think a true Democrat has a clue what "double standard" even means, to be honest with you.
