Close Walter Reed?
News reports indicate that the base realignment and closure committee wants to close Walter Reed medical center. Ok, that's fine, I don't care about which bases are open and which are closed, as long as it's efficient and we're protected. Supposedly, that's what this group is all about: "combining their strengths rather than working separately."
However, this seems quite odd to me. The report says:One-time costs, including construction and renovations, would total $989 million.
But it also says:
The Pentagon would save $301 million over 20 years
Maybe it's me, but I'm not seeing any savings there.
