ACLU Conflict of Interest
When is the last time you heard a judge recuse himself from a case in which they had a clear, vested, conflict of interest? It happens all the time -- a judge cannot rule on a case where, for example, their own son is being sentenced. They would clearly not be able to be impartial in their decision. It's one of the reasons many higher courts have a number of different judges -- so that one can recuse themselves and judgment can still be rendered.
Of course, this idea is foreign to the left. The left, the ACLU, are all about advancing socialism and communism at all costs, in all cases. The ACLU has even permeated the highest court in the land, making a mockery of justice and the American Way. This penetration is, of course, Ruth Ginsberg. She decided that she could rule on a case involving the ACLU -- an organization that she used to work for and very strongly support. In a republican form of government with actual checks and balances, she'd be removed from her position immediately for malfeasance. But America doesn't have a representative republic any more. And for that, the ACLU is glad.Posted by: Ogre at 03:05 PM | Comments (0) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
Thelma Drake
This week, Wictory Wednesday presents Thelma Drake for US Congress for the Second District of Virginia. Representative Drake is running for reelection for her second term in the Congress and is running against MoveOn backed candidate Phillip Kellam. Polls indicate this will be a tight race, and from the amount of money being poured in by MoveOn, a race of importance in 2006.
Rep. Drake has been a supporter of victory in Iraq, rejecting calls to surrender to terrorists and leave the region in chaos. By providing support that the troops need, it gives the military and administration the latitude needed to do the hard work of reconstruction. Also a supporter of free trade, Rep. Drake has voted to create a free trade zone in South America to further economic development that is beneficial to all parties. Many protectionists keep railing against the trade deficit without realizing that the trade deficit does more for other countries developing their economies than humanitarian aid could ever do. Lastly, in the light of the recent debate on immigration, Rep. Drake gets it. Regulating the flow of immigrants is not xenophobia, it is common sense. It is one thing to be generous in allowing immigrants to come here to build a better life. It is another to have no real border and allow anyone, including terrorists, free reign across the border. Immigration is healthy for a county, unregulated flaunting of a border is not. Please consider supporting Thelma Drake in her race for reelection. Greensboro Mayor to Violate State Law
Greensboro Mayor Keith Holliday has publicly stated that he does not care what the state laws are, he has the ultimate power and authority to do whatever he wants, even if the state says that he cannot. He is planning on openly defying and assisting others in violating state law 14-177 (crimes against nature) and 14-184 (fornication and adultery).
At the same time, he is being bigoted against heterosexuals, perhaps violating the 14th amendment of the US Constitution; and the NC State Constitution, Article I, Sec. 19, and Article I, Section 1 (but that one's been ignored so long by government that it really doesn't have any meaning anymore). Of course, since Durham and Chapel Hill (Berkeley of the East) already have violated these laws, the Democrat mayor of Greensboro sees no problem in breaking the law as well. If the laws are flawed, let's change the laws. Of course, I think the Democrats will have a very hard time coming out in the legislature and trying to repeal the crimes against nature and fornication laws. All I ask is that they be honest. If they don't like the laws, remove them -- they ARE a majority there and could quite EASILY remove the laws if they truly wanted to. However, I think they know the majority of this state do not want those laws removed, so they choose just to break them when it's convenient for them.Posted by: Ogre at 12:08 PM | Comments (2) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)

Marines in Iraq
Two US Marines are listening to the radio in Iraq.
"American soldiers," coos a soft female voice, "Your so-called national Leaders have lied to you. You are needlessly risking your lives to wage A useless, unjust, illegal, and unwinnable war. Now is the time to return home to your loved ones, while you are still alive. If you foolishly insist on remaining where you are not wanted, the brave resistance fighters will have no choice but to kill you and add your name to the long ever-increasing casualty list of this insane war. So why risk never seeing your loved ones again for a so-called president who has repeatedly lied and deceived you at every opportunity? Why should you be sacrificed so that US corporations can enjoy fatter profits? The only wise thing to do is return home now, while you are still drawing breath, before you return zippered into a bodybag." "What's this?" sneers one Marine. "An Islamo-terrorist version of Tokyo Rose?" "No," answers the other. "It's just CNN!"Posted by: Ogre at 04:06 PM | Comments (4) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
Crush Corporate Welfare!
I think even those die-hard liberals would be able to support me on this one, right? Doesn't everyone want to stop taxpayer money from being spent against their will to the tune of millions of dollars for one corporation that spends the money however they want?
If you're in agreement, please help support this action TODAY in the U.S. Senate where they are debating a bill that would still millions of dollars of taxpayer funds from being used by a private corporation for their own lobbying efforts! Democrat Decker Guilty
The news gets worse for Democrat Speaker of the NC House . One of his cronies, Mike Decker, pleaded guilty to receiving bribes to influence politics. For those who don't know the story, here's a recap:
In 2003, about 59% of the people of North Carolina voted for Republican state representatives. With gerrymandering, that gave the Republicans a 61-59 advantage in the House. Jim Black, Democrat, didn't like that. Mike Decker was given $50,000 and later a brand-new state job created just for him (and one for his son). He then switched parties and registered as a Democrat, giving control of the House back to the Democrats. Rumors are still swirling about who it was that actually gave Mr. Decker the cash bribe -- conditions of his plea bargin have not been released. It may be that Jim Black himself gave him the bribe -- although Black's multiple lawyers and spin machines completely deny it. Mr. Black may be led away in handcuffs soon.Posted by: Ogre at 11:51 AM | Comments (2) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)

Qana, Morality, and War
Patrick Buchanan joins the left in crying out for the US to take responsibility for Israel and Qana:
And because America provides Israel with the bombs it uses on Lebanon, we refused to restrain the Israelis, and we opposed every effort for a cease-fire before Sunday, America shares full moral and political responsibility for the massacre at Qana.
He also joins the opposition in claiming
Israel launched an air war on an innocent people.
However, he illustrates himself that this is not actually the case:
87 percent of Lebanese back Hezbollah, and the entire Arab and Islamic world, Shia and Sunni alike, is rallying behind Nasrallah.
So let me get this straight -- a full EIGHTY SEVEN percent of the people of a country back an organization whose stated goal is the utter annihilation of a country and a people -- but they're innocent. 87% of the people in a country are supporting terrorists who kidnapped soldiers and continue to refuse to release them -- but they're innocent. I don't condemn all Arabs as terrorists -- but would Mr. Buchanan support the federal government taking any action against a state if 87% of the people of a state decided to secede from the union; declared war on the United States; and started launching bombs into neighboring states? Or would he claim that the people of the state were innocent?

Corpses on Display
Peter Porcupine has up an article about a display of actual human remains in the museum.
Porcupine has an uneasy feeling that the exhibit is designed instead to desensitize us all to human remains, to make nothing sacred by breaking the oldest taboo of all.
I think Porcupine is right. There really is no need to use actual humans here -- a model can be made of plastic of anything they really wanted, despite the claims of the supporters. I do hope Porcupine can find the time to grab some Cape Cod sand for human dignity's sake.

Hate Crime Logic
Ok, let's see if I can understand the mindset that's at work here.
Item 1: A person walks into an office, declares he is Muslim, declares that he hates Jews, KILLS one and SHOOTS five others. This is not a hate crime. Item 2: A person states that "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world." He takes no actions, he does not encourage anyone to take any actions at all. He is also drunk. This IS a hate crime. There's a reason "hate crimes" are absolutely abhorrent to me. They are completely arbitrary and utterly impossible to enforce equally. They are totally wrong and incomprehensible. They are in direct conflict with both freedom of speech and equal protection. But for some reason, they still exist. Maybe so that any person can decide who to punish for their thoughts -- if they disagree. The message: disagree with the government, and you can be severely punished. Go ahead, try again to convince me that this is a free country. I dare you. (Hat tip to Always on Watch).Posted by: Ogre at 01:02 PM | Comments (0) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
More NC Taxes for you
In case you missed it in the closing minutes of the Legislature, the Democrats approved yet another tax increase after spending the $2 BILLION surplus. This one was another tax on road usage. You see, since the Democrats continue to use taxes that are collected from gasoline on non-road usages, they don't have enough money to maintain the roads. If you drive in North Carolina, you don't need me to tell you that our roads are incredibly sub-par.
This plan creates new toll roads, allegedly to pay for the constructions of some other toll roads. Don't believe it, it's a lie, plain and simple. The toll road receipts will go into the general fund for the Democrats to spend at will, as they always do. It's just a way for them to get more money to spend while claiming they didn't raise taxes. Want better roads? How about using the entire amount collected from gas taxes and all automobile taxes (property, registration, title, impact fees, fines, etc.) for roads? We'd have the best roads in the country because we already HAVE the money. The Democrats just don't want to spend the money on roads because they're more concerned with building oyster farms and the like.Posted by: Ogre at 11:30 AM | Comments (1) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)

The North American Union, SPP, and NASCO: Erasing America's Borders
By Heidi at Euphoric Reality
Our government has undertaken some monumental legislation that fully impacts the American way of life, our freedom, and our sovereignty. The purpose of such legislation is to homogenize Canada, Mexico, and the United States into a North American Union - and we're all going to sleep through it. Have you heard of a little-known program called the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America? This tri-lateral partnership was signed by President Bush last year without Congressional oversight or public approval. Opponents of the SPP have called it NAFTA on steroids - and we all know how disastrous NAFTA has been for everyone except Mexico. It also appears to be modeled on the ineffective and highly unpopular European Union (unpopular with the people, that is).Posted by: Ogre at 05:29 PM | Comments (3) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)

ADL Opposes Freedom of Speech
What do you know -- another group that claims to support freedom shows that they only support it when you agree with them. Abraham Foxman of the US Jewish Anti-Defamation League wants a criminal investigation into a person who dared to utter forbidden words, "Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world."
Really, that's all. He didn't say anything about killing them, he didn't say anything about wanting them dead. He didn't say anything else, at all, about them. But Mr. Foxman wants this person arrested and charged with a crime. Obviously Mr. Foxman is a strong supporter of punishing people who do not verbally agree with him. Mr. Foxman, you are free to disagree with anyone you want. You are free to say nearly anything you like. However, when you advocate using the force of government to punish someone who merely makes a statement that you, personally, don't like, you are way out of line. You had better hope that there is no criminal punishment for freedom of speech -- for one day someone may be in power who disagrees with YOUR speech.Posted by: Ogre at 02:03 PM | Comments (5) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
NC Legislature Done for the Year
Last week the North Carolina General Assembly finished their business for the year. That is, of course, unless they decide to hold a sudden, secret meeting to pass any legislation that needs to be passed secretly, as they did last year to slip the lottery through. The General Assembly is dominated and controlled by Democrats. They hold a majority in both chambers and if you dare disagree with them, you will be shunned, ignored, and attacked by them.
So, what accomplishments did the Democrats in the Legislature complete in this short, election year? Well, they started the session with $2 BILLION more of taxpayer money than they were supposed to have. In other words, the economy was so good in spite of the Democrats and their crushing of freedom, that we paid over $2 BILLION more than they expected. So, what did they do? Hello? They're Democrats -- what do you THINK they did? They spent it. They spent every single dime of it. But oh, that wasn't enough, no! They also raised taxes on income and sales! They created brand-new taxes on things that had never been taxed before. They transferred money from the lottery to supplant previous expenditures from the general fund. They considered adding toll roads -- because they didn't spend any of that $2 Billion fixing the horrible roads we've got in North Carolina. So, if you like higher taxes, more government, bigger government, less freedom, less control, more spending on education with zero results, and crappy roads, support your Democrat incumbent in the legislature at election time this fall -- that is, if you even have a choice on your ballot -- most districts do not.Posted by: Ogre at 12:04 PM | Comments (0) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)

Fun at Marine Boot Camp
Ah, Friday, time for some lighter fare. How about a Marine Corps Boot Camp joke?
his story was told to me by a friend and one of the most outstanding Marines I ever had the pleasure to serve with. Joe Fuller served as a Marine Corps Drill Instructor, and as such, he too possessed the temperament typical of their breed -- always on the quest to find new, educational, and amusing ways to entertain their charges -- the unwary Marine Corps boot camp recruit. Head detail (Latrine duty for you Doggies and Prop Heads) is something few escape during recruit training. It's pretty safe to say that after a head has been field-day'd by Marine recruits, you would be hard pressed to find a more sterile place this side of a hospital operating room. Unless a bored, Marine Corps Drill Instructor is doing the inspecting! As Joe tells it, failing to clean the head to the Drill Instructor's satisfaction the first time, and under the threat of facing their D.I.'s wrath should they fail inspection on the second try (there is no such thing as a third chance in boot camp) everything was checked and double checked before announcing that the head was now, finally, ready for inspection. The Drill Instructor ordered the recruits to stand-by, directly outside of the head (and out of view) while he conducted what they knew would be an inspection on a microscopic level. The Drill Instructor had no doubts that the head was probably cleaner now then the date it was built. That situation was about to change. Pulling a small container of peanut butter (chunky style) from his pocket, the Drill Instructor carefully placed a substantial amount of it under the rim (out of direct sight) of one of the commodes. In his deepest, scariest, and loudest voice, he let out a bellow, "HEAD DETAIL! GET YOUR ASSES IN HERE NOW!" All three recruits came charging into the head, stopping a few feet from their obviously perturbed Drill Instructor and assuming the position of attention. In unison, with eyes rigidly locked above and beyond their D.I.'s face, all three yelled, "SIR, AYE AYE, SIR!" "You scumbags call this a clean head?" The Drill Instructor demanded. Knowing that they scrubbed and disinfected every nook and cranny possible, twice, the only response they could offer was "Sir, Yes Sir!" The Drill Instructor walked over to the prepared commode, reached on the rim with his fingers, and with as much dramatic flare as he could muster he thrust his hand forward at the recruits and said, "Then would you mind telling me what the hell this is!" The recruits were far enough away not to clearly identify the chunky, brownish substance clinging to the Drill Instructor's fingers. Additionally, their present environment was lending a certain amount of authenticity to what was being held out before their eyes. Not waiting for an answer, and watching the color disappear from their faces, The D.I. looked down at the brown glob and started the show. "Well, then, if this head is so cleaned, this must not be what it looks like, right? Because it sure looks like CRAP to me, private!" He could see that one recruit's body began to shake visibly, while the color in the faces of the two others was turning from pale white to a light green. He then move his hand to his nose and inhaled the fragrance. With his best effort of a complete look of disgust on his face, he said, "This definitely smells like crap too, private!" A look of terror began to show in the recruits' eyes as the Drill Instructor slowly lower his hand towards his mouth. Biting off a chunk of the brown mass, the D.I. offered, "And it damn sure tastes like crap, private!" Two of the three recruits were unconscious on the floor and probably never heard the D.I.'s last assessment. The third continued to empty the contents of his stomach in the nearest commode as their fun-loving and entertaining Drill Instructor walked past him humming the Marine Corps Hymn. Semper Fi!Posted by: Ogre at 01:35 PM | Comments (8) | Add Comment | Trackbacks (Suck)
NC Ethics "Reform"
Sometimes when I read an article about events in the North Carolina state government, I have a lot to say. However, sometimes the author of the article really says all that needs to be said. Senator Phil Burger has such an article. It's regarding the new massive expenditure of taxpayer money that creates a new "commission" and gives it all sorts of power -- to spend taxpayer money without responsibility. In addition,
This “reform” fails to address the primary issue driving the public call for meaningful ethics reform and a more open legislative process.
Go read it.
