mu.nu - It's mackerel stewed in chocolate!

It might be on my end ... but
It may have more to do with this very slow and pathetic Pentium box and the very slow and even more pathetic 28.8K dial-up connection, but I am experincin' difficulties with graphics and .css files not even loadin' on all the Munuvian blogs I have checked, so far.
On an entirely different note, I found this little ditty on AtomFilm's site:
They say sex and violence sells. If we'd known that we wouldn't give it away for free.

More slow motion
Jen mentioned this the other day...is it happening again? I've a post with a few trackback pings, of which all went through except the ones to Munuvians. Is this some kind of perverse anti-pinging discrimination thing?
Pixy, I think you need to get the stick out again.
Update: I just did each ping manually using

MuNu-to-MuNu pings certainly work, but yeah, a few people have had problems at different times. I'll put my fuzzy little brain into gear and see if I can come up with something.

Make sure the file is somewhere in your www directory. Then just add a link like this:
<a href="http://sithoughts.mu.nu/filename.foo">look, here's my file</a>

So, if you uploaded a file titled pancreas.mpeg it would be linked with a simple [a href="http://sithoughts.mu.nu/pancreas.mpeg"]Pancreas![/a].
Just replace [] with , of course.

Gaaaack!
Okay, so everything is across onto the new server now, except for DNS. The old hosting company is planning to do some network upgrades this weekend, so this morning I transferred the DNS across to the new server as well, leaving the old one as a backup.
And just now, the old server, and indeed the old hosting company, disappeared from the net. Somewhere there is a very unhappy network engineer right now.

Is there anything we domain holders need to change in our DNS settings?

There shouldn't be. Everything mu.nu will end up on the new server.
If you still have an entry pointing at a LiquidWeb server, replace it with ns1.mu.nu or ns2.mu.nu. But I think we already got rid of those (the LiquidWeb ones).

Expression Engine
Expression Engine is up and running! See the thrilling results at the Sandbox!
Yay!
I'll be installing a few more plugins - there aren't as many plugins for EE as MT, but there are some. I've already put Textile, Markdown and SmartyPants in there, so you have the same formatting options as with MT 3.
Anyway, give me a yip and I'll set you up with a login so you can play around.
Update: I'm starting to like Expression Engine, though it certainly has its own idiosyncracies, and one big stupid hole when it comes to setting up multiple blogs. (Though I can write a little script to deal with that.)

File Question
Okay, let's say, hypothetically, that I just made a really cool documentary in my film production class, and I'd like to share it with my blog readers, but the smallest size I can compress it to in MPEG form is 9.6 MB. The server is fine with it, but Movable Type will freak.
You can use FTP to upload files. Your FTP username and password are the same as in CPanel.

War on Terror Survey
I have just created a survey on the War on Terror that I hope everyone will take. It is not limited to just US citizens, and I know now there are a few grammar issues, but I activated it before I noticed unfortuately. The survey can be found here:
UPDATE: OK, I added Canada and New Zealand, plus changed a few little things. I know, I'm crazy.
War on Terror Survey
This is a first try for me on making a survey so don't be harsh. If you have any questions or comments, or even CONSTRUCTIVE criticism just let me know. Email me at
patriot@patriot-paradox.com or just leave a comment. Also the survey is completly anonymous.
Also I am trying to get the survey out there so I can get a good mix of respondents so feel free to post a link to it from your blog, and pass it along to liberal blogs especially.

A good quix overall, but question 15 might need revamping.
"Pull troops out of Iraq and end the war on terror" supposes that everyone agrees that the war in Iraq is a legitimate battle in the war on terror, and many (the dolts!) don't.
Q-15 seems to undue the balance you've invested in the early questions about "Is Afghanistan part of the WOT" / "Is Iraq part of the WOT"...

It's a Frankenputer made of hardware salvaged from systems clients were throwing out. It's sitting here looking for just such a purpose as this.

Again there are numerous types available so it should not be nearly
impossible to find an ideal one for ones pet. In relation to larger
dogs, it can be tempting just to let them do it roam your car or truck
freely, but keep in mind that this is often dangerous. If you get into a
mishap they will not be restrained and can be killed or injured.

MuNuKey
Everyone knows by now that TypePad and MT 3 offer comment registration using a service called TypeKey. While it's effective in blocking spam, it does leave you dependent on the TypeKey server, and not everyone wants that.
One of the neat plugins I'm installing is something called
TinyOrwell, which is a standalone TypeKey-compatible authentication server. So I'll be able to set up a MuNuKey service: Register once to be registered across all MuNu blogs (or at least all those that use MuNuKey).
We'll also have MT Blacklist, and not one but
two ways of blocking comments to old posts.
Now I'm just waiting for Brad Choate's site to come back. Curiously enough, it's hosted at the same company as our new server.

Good News, Less Good News
Good news first: MT3 is up and running! Email me at andrew -at- pixymisa -dot- net and I'll give you a login and password so you can play around. The test blog is at playpen.mu.nu.
I've installed two plugins so far and have at least two more to install, but it's a lot more straightforward than with MT2 and nothing is likely to break.
Less good news: It looks like we've hit some sort of limit in MT Blacklist; I couldn't get rid of the latest spam until I went and pruned some redundant entries. There are quite a few redundant entries, fortunately, so we'll survive for a while yet.
Oh yeah. The dates on the test blog are in Czech, because the languages are listed in alphabetical order on the config page and that turns out to be the default. I thought it was cool so I left it that way.
Update: MT3 seems to be working well, except for the dynamic publishing, which isn't working at all. Unfortinately,
Brad Choate's site is down, so I can't get updates for two of the plugins we currently use. Hopefully it will be back up soon and we can get this baby off the ground!

International Leave A Comment Day
Here's a simple idea who's time has come. Visit five blogs you usually just lurk at, and leave a comment. Visit three blogs you've never been to before and leave a comment. Even if it's just "Hi, it's Leave A Comment Day", that's fine. We are but fragile flowers who bask in showers of attention Everyone likes a little feedback, otherwise we feel like we're just talking to ourselves. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The Nike Air 2 Strong is red and black, staying true to the traditional Western Conference colors. The upper is red with a bright red wood-grain appearance to the eyestay and toe cap overlays. The laces, mesh collar, heel counter, sock liner and midsole are black. The heartbeat-patterned outsole is clear with a red pivot point, black shank plate, and red Kobe logo on the heel.To mark the shoe as Nike Air Assault High footwear, a patch on the heel of the insole is marked with his name, conference.

It got crowded in heaven so, for one day and one day only, it was decided to only accept people who had really bad day on the day they died.St. Peter was standing at the pearly gates and said to the first man, "Tell me about the day you died." The man said, "Oh, it was awful. I was sure my wife was having an affair, so I came home early to catch her with him. I searched all over the apartment but couldn't find him anywhere. So I went out onto the balcony, we live on the 25th floor, and found this man hanging over the edge by his fingertips. I went inside, got a hammer, and started hitting his hands. He fell, but landed in some bushes. So, I got the refrigerator and pushed it over the balcony and it crushed him. The strain of the act gave me a heart attack, of which I died from."St. Peter couldn't deny that this was a pretty bad day, and since it was a crime of passion, he let the man in. He then asked the next man in line about the day he died. "Well, sir, it was awful," said the second man. "I was doing aerobics on the balcony of my 26th floor apartment when I twisted my ankle and slipped over the edge. I managed to grab the balcony of the apartment below, but some maniac came out and started pounding on my fingers with a hammer. Luckily I landed in some bushes. But, then the guy dropped a refrigerator on me!"St. Peter chuckled, let him into heaven and decided he could really start to enjoy this job. "Tell me about the day you died?¡± he said to the third man in line. "OK, picture this; I'm naked, hiding inside a refrigerator...."replica watchescheap bridemaid dresses

Now for somethin' entirely confusin'
I jes' found the followin' link http://www.google.com/search?hl=xx-hacker&q=read+my+lips in my referral list. Anyone have a clue as to the purpose of addin' hacker into the search criteria? Other than makin' some of the links look a bit bizarre, I couldn't see much difference in the returns upon this page from those ya would find if ya did a regular Google search on the same terms.
While I am at it, can anyone 'splain to me why I keep comin' up with a 404 message ever' time I try to access the
USURP site? I actually thought I had successfully posted a new item to it yesterday, but have been unable to access the site to see if it successfully published. Hmmmm.

Thanks for the responses. As I said, I could not see any differences in the returns, except for some funny lookin' links.
And thank you Pixy for your help, as usual.

Actually, I think there's a good reason: Lately, all the activity has been on the political blogs, and they've sucked all the air out of the blogosphere for the slice-of-life blogs. Give it a couple of weeks and people will start to return.

Too many lurkers. Let me know if you figure out how to draw them out. I've thought about striking, but I don't think I can shut long enough to be effective. ; )

No Poetry Day today.
After giving her fair warning, annika has not yet made her "Poetry Day" post. I now declare her comments hijacked to "Post a Racy Limerick" Day.

There once was a rude boy named Victor,
Who shook like the scale of Sir Richter.
He spied a cute lass,
And grabbed hold of her ass.
If she took twenty bucks he'd have lick'd her.

How's this one, MF?
He once loved a sweet girl named Trish,
And would happily grant her any wish.
But when she talked to his mother,
She was shocked to discover,
That "M.F." didn't stand for Mad Fish!
Oh, you said "Harvey!" Sorry!

Textwhat?
I have no idea what it actually _does_ let alone how it +works+, but I have installed the *Textile* plugin at Simon's request.
Someone else had a plugin request. I'm sure I still have it filed away among the 1100 emails occupying my inbox... Feel free to poke me if it was you.

It's a great plugin for helping in formatting posts. You have to change your "Text Formatting" box in MT to Textile 2 to make it work, and then follow the guidelines in the user manual. It helps add tags, formatting, footnotes, hyperlinks and plenty more.
