"Ending Don't Ask, Don't Tell"?
With all the controversy over the "don't ask, don't tell" policy of the U.S. military, there have been good arguments on both sides. I know that Gays and Lesbians have served from time immemorial, and served with distinction, I served with individuals that I knew to be gay and I never had a problem with that as long as they did their jobs in the manner expected; having said that, I still believe that the DADT policy is a good one.
While it must be difficult for someone to hide his sexuality; the fact is that the DADT controls behavior that is un-conducive to military discipline that otherwise would manifest itself. I have a brother that spent 8 years serving in the U.S.A.F., until he was outed by a jealous lover, up till that point his behavior had been exemplary, but after he was outed, he took every opportunity to flaunt his sexuality; conduct that he has continues to exhibit to this day 20 years later. Do I care that he's gay? No, I don't care what he does in the privacy of his own bedroom, but what DOES bother me is that he seems to want to shout out his sexual preferences for the world to admire. I wouldn't mind him holding his partners hand in public, but I DO mind that he seems to want to draw attention to it as "something special" to be admired by all and sundry, no matter their own preferences. Gays say that the policy is discriminatory and forces them to "live a lie", and in actuality, that IS true, but the Military is a special kind of calling and it is NOT geared to serve the wishes and desires of the individual soldier, but what is best for the good of the Services as a whole in accomplishing it's goal of protecting the U.S. Openly gay individuals are not conducive to that goal.Being "in the closet" allows the Gay person to serve with honor without causing dissension in the ranks and opening a door to legal discrimination issues that I don't think we want to enter into as a society. The following is one of the best arguments against doing away with the DADT policy and I agree with the author 100%. In the words of my friend GuyK: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Homosexuals are by definition individuals who are sexually attracted to persons of the same sex. A male homosexual desires other males. Lesbians desire other females. This is obvious, yet it is ignored in media or political discussions of certain homosexual agenda issues. Homosexuals have been trying for years to force the Boy Scouts of America to accept homosexual scoutmasters. These men would take young boys camping. I've heard people defend this by claiming that homosexuals are no more likely than heterosexuals to molest children. I don't believe that's true, but even if it is, it's irrelevant. It would be relevant only if adult straight males were demanding the right to take little girls camping. Can you imagine the outrage if heterosexual men were making such a demand?
Congress is now moving to admit open homosexuals to the military. We're told that homosexuals are no more likely to engage in sexual misconduct or harassment than heterosexuals. That's debatable, but so what? Heterosexual men in the military don't bunk down and shower with the women. But homosexual men will indeed bunk down and shower with the other males if Obama gets his way. Ditto for lesbians and the other females. There would be universal outrage if heterosexual male soldiers demanded to shower with naked female soldiers, but naked male soldiers are expected to shower with homosexuals who might desire them. Female soldiers are expected to shower with lesbians.
What we're being told, indirectly, is that homosexuality is a more enlightened form of sexuality. We can't allow young men to take girls camping because that would lead to pedophilia, but it's no problem to let homosexual men take boys camping. We can't let heterosexual males shower or bed down with females in the military. That would lead to sexual harassment, and the ladies would feel uncomfortable that a bunch of lustful guys are seeing them nude. But no one of either sex should have any problem with being in such a situation with a homosexual. Heterosexuals can be barred from situations where sexually improper behavior might result, but homosexuals cannot. Indeed, they have a right not to be barred. Tim W.

1. Using Poor Form and Technique
Too many people use bad form and technique when strength training, and it's a common cause of injury. People perform their reps at a fast speed using more momentum than muscle energy. People heave, swing, or bounce the weight instead of lifting it.
Bad form and technique often occurs when someone is utilizing a weight that's too heavy to enable them to lift properly. Use a weight that challenges a person, but that's not so heavy that your form and technique get sloppy. Use muscle power, not momentum, to lift up the weight. Don't heave, golf swing, or bounce the bodyweight. Lift and lower the weight in a steady and controlled manner while concentrating on feeling the muscle that you're working (this is known as the mind-muscle connection).
2. Not Warming Up
You need to take the time to properly warm up before lifting weights. Warming up will stimulate blood circulation to your muscles, increase your joint flexibility and range of motion, and get you mentally prepared for the workout, all of which helps prevent injury. Warm up by doing a couple of minutes of light aerobic exercise and 1 or 2 light sets of each strength training exercise before using heavier weights.
3. Overtraining
Training all too often saps your energy and reduces both your muscle's and nervous system's capability to recuperate from your strength training workouts. If you're in a depleted, weakened Pull Up Bars state from overtraining, your risk of injury increases. You also need to realize that muscles avoid grow during training, they will grow after training. Strength training causes microscopic tears in the muscles, and rest days enable the muscles to repair them selves, grow, and get more powerful.
Training too often and never giving your muscles plenty of time to recover from training not just increases your risk of injury, it also causes muscles growth and strength increases in the future to a halt.
three. Not Listening to The body
When lifting weights, you need to work out with a lot of intensity if you wish to build muscle and increase strength. But if your tired and lacking energy prior to a particular weight lifting exercise, you may need to ease up on the intensity for the particular workout, or even consider not working out at all which day. Pushing yourself too much when you're tired and lacking energy increases your risk of injury.
5. Lack of Concentration
In case you are distracted, preoccupied or lackadaisical when weight lifting, especially when performing totally free weight exercises like barbell squats or even dumbbell shoulder presses, if you're inviting injury.
6. Poor Nutrition
Weight training and proper nutrition go together. Proper nutrition provides you with all the energy you need for the weight training workouts. Without proper nutrition, you'll maintain a depleted, weakened condition, and your risk of injury will increase. Proper nutrition is not only necessary to fuel your workouts, it's also necessary to help you recover from your workout routines.
As you can see, avoiding weight lifting injuries is not really difficult. Just follow these guidelines and your weight training workouts is going to be productive and injury free of charge.
