Quote of the Day
'All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible.' – Frank Herbert
The Founders knew this truism, that's why they tried to install a government of "ordinary" citizens that would serve a term or two in Congress and then return to their "civilian" life. It worked well for over a hundred and fifty years, but then the general populace got lazy and allowed a political class to form and slowly take over the reins of power. We now have an elite political class that has overstepped the boundaries placed upon them in the Constitution, all "for the good of the people", of course. It's hard to be self-reliant; it's far easier to let the government care for us. It is up to us to return to the Founders vision and do our best to return to the idea of Everyman as a TEMPORARY politician. WE need to take back the responsibilities of being free individuals. WE need to enforce the limits imposed by the Constitution upon the politicians or we will soon become Subjects rather than Citizens. We have strayed into laziness and inattention to the political zeitgeist, it's true, but We are a tough people, and we CAN take back our birthright of freedom and individual responsibility. We merely have to show the will to do so.
