1 Insurance companies, doctors, pharmaceutical companies, and hospitals are all raising their fees at exhorbitant rates every year because of . . . regulation? That's a rich one. Virtually every advanced country simply limits fees and requires insurance companies to be non-profits and they're health systems are cheaper (even when taxes are accounted for) and, in almost every case, qualitatively much better. I think poor Ann needs to scurry over to her doctor and get her poor head examined for rock-in-the-noggin'-onitus. Of course, a really cheap solution would be for the U.S. government to simply buy us a plane ticket everytime we needed any major health care so that we could fly overseas to a cheaper and better health system.

2 I would give your ravings more credence, Karlo, if thousands of Canadians WEREN'T pouring over the border every year...If they get REALLY sick, they come to the US to get treatment...

3 I've lived overseas in a lot of countries and in none of them did people worry about healthcare costs. When people got sick, they simply went to the hospital and got treated. The U.S. has, by any measure, the most expensive healthcare system in the world, but healthcare in the U.S. isn't great. Maybe I'm unlucky, but I've had terrible luck in U.S. hospitals. Most medical advice has been worse than what I can figure out myself in a couple hours on Wikipedia.

4 Well, Karlo, I've been in seven different countries and 38 States, and I've not seen a better, albeit admittedly expensive, care system anywhere than here in the US. There IS a REASON that Canadian and Brit and Dutch and French citizens all come here when they need specialized care in a short time frame.

I have at least 4 relatives from/in the Netherlands that are alive today because they had the wherewithal to be able to come here for treatment when they got seriously ill.
Two others that remained in Holland were not diagnosed in time because of the long waits to see specialists; so in the end they received nothing but palliative care and are now 'residents' of their town's cemetery. They were relatively young and should have had at least twenty years more of life, but the State decided that treatment in their case would be too expensive to justify the cost, since they were both over 45.
Had they been diagnosed and treated earlier or more aggressively, they would most likely still be alive today instead of just a memory to their family.

One Aunt opted to be euthanized when she learned she had liver cancer rather than spend a couple years under the tender mercies of Socialized Medical care. She KNEW there was no hope for a cure (in Holland anyway... statistically,here in the US, patients in her condition/stage have a 45% chance of full recovery, and a 78%chance of another five years of reasonable condition of living) and didn't want to live in pain or as a drugged out zombie.

Our system is far from perfect, but ObamaCare is NOT the way to better it under any stretch of the imagination.
