What is really ironic is I just discovered the same thing about the coffee maker. And you know what else - if you don't put coffee in the filter it come out really weak.

The first step to troubleshooting any sort of electronic device is "check to make sure it is plugged in." I've saved myself a lot of time several times with that, and even helped a few people with it, despite being assured that of course they plugged it in. "Humor me and look one more time."
