I remember seeing the pubic service announcement as a lad.
I don't remember it being a big problem. Maybe a regional thing: Willie Mays warning kids not to play with blasting caps. Thanks to The McCovey Chronicles for the memories.

Actually this was a bigger problem than you might expect.Up until just a few years ago anyone could walk into any hardware store and buy a case of dynamite.My uncle Bazzer Coots(that was his name,I shit you not)blew off a good chunk of his left hand when he was a kid handling caps for stump chuckin'.

Seriously, I remember those PSA's. And as a little kid, I used to think they were talking about the caps that we used with our toy cap pistols. Took me a while to figure out that they were referring to something that was used to set off high explosives...
