Success!
Migrated the whole of MuNu to the new server. It mostly seems to work.
Problems encountered and overcome:I couldn't get into PostgreSQL to load the databases. Then I could. Either I did something and have forgotten what it was, or it was just being pesky. PHP was not built with PostgreSQL support. The automatic rebuild through CPanel did not work. A manual rebuild did. One or two symbolic links pointed to a filesystem that doesn't exist on the new machine. Easy to fix once you find them. On the old server, I can refer to a CGI script, say login.cgi, just as login and it works. I no longer have any idea how I did that, and I had to get creative to make it (sort of) work on the new server. Left a couple of essential entries out of httpd.conf. This is understandable, since on the new server it is maintained by CPanel. This blew up Snooze Button Dreams, for example. Forgot to create an account for Munuviana. Heh. There were some other things, but I don't remember what. The usual delayed DNS changes taking me to the wrong site, that kind of thing. Oh yes: Poxy suexec with its 17-stage security checking and wonderfully informative error messages, which completely broke Movable Type. Grr.Now, I think it's time for a nap.

It sure seems like it...(help!)
The way I'm thinking is, if everybody but me can post, maybe it's something wrong here? Altho, this thing is working fine, except for getting to the 'post' or login page....
It's starting to scare me, now.

Or just relax and have a beer.

Okay...what's happening is that posts don't appear on either page, Xfire or Munuviana. They DO show up on the edit entry list, but not in the 'recent posts' list on Xfire.
The only comments I can see are the ones left under either "DNS Bah" at Munu (or the ones under it) or "I know what happened" at Xfire, or the older ones.
To see yer comments, I was going to the 'manage weblog' button at whichever site and reading the comments that way...BUT...yer last comment, I can't get. I can get the previous one, but not the newest one. It's not blue, like links are when they can be clicked on...
As for the email part...I'm clueless as to what's up with that. No matter which of the 47 ways there are to access Yahoo mail I try, all that happens is it keeps clicking like it does when it changes pages and won't stop so it can load.
Sooo...I didn't get the last thing ya said because it was put under one of the two posts I can't see. I need to know what ya said...
I'd say try commenting under this post, DNS Bah at Munu or I know what happened at Xfire...
That oughta work...

No I don't.
That's very strange.
You're obviously getting to the new server at least for Munuviana, because I only posted "DNS Bah" on the new server. You should be seeing more new stuff there, but you're not, which sounds like a proxy or cache issue rather than a DNS issue.
Reboot everything, that's my advice.

Also...what's the cache? If that's old temp files and such, I do dump them constantly.
And, what are 'proxies' and how do I tell if that's it and fix it if it is?
Posted by: Stevie at February 22, 2004 09:21 PM (YKu7i)
Your cache is your temp files, also yes.
The proxy is something that your ISP runs, like your temp files only bigger. It shouldn't be causing problems like this, but...

Rest assured, I've restarted this thing, in all honesty, about 8 times, so far.
Still can't see recent posts or get to Yahoo mail, though. I can get to Hotmail, if that makes any sense...
Let's put it this way...everything is working fine on here, except not being able to see new posts and Yahoo mail.
Could the problems be related somehow?
And...'but' what?
(I just called Earthlink...they say 'no reported outages'...)
Posted by: Stevie at February 22, 2004 09:35 PM (MP/aT)
Does that help or make a difference?
Posted by: Stevie at February 22, 2004 09:39 PM (P0Fqu)
Still...
The problem you're having with Munu and Yahoo sounds like the same thing - you can get there, but it doesn't update.
I'm going to do a little something, hold on...
Try xfire.mu.nu and see what you get.

Can you see any of those recent hits in Sitemeter now?
Posted by: Pixy Misa at February 22, 2004 09:51 PM (jtW2s)
Posted by: Stevie at February 22, 2004 09:57 PM (N7QC9)
Yet, Site Meter remains the same.
Posted by: Stevie at February 22, 2004 10:00 PM (Og169)
Now, how to solve it...
Um.
Um um.
Do you have Mozilla? That usually works

If you'd like, go to Mozilla and download their browser. It's always handy to have a second browser around in case IE messes up - which I suspect is what's happening now.
Posted by: Pixy Misa at February 22, 2004 10:02 PM (jtW2s)
However, I do believe I'll hafta wait for Paul to help me get it. I've tried doing that Mozilla thing before and I can't get it....I get losted.
I have a pounding headache now and since it's about 7:00am, I'm going to sleep for a bit.
Thank you so much for your help and input...at least we've got it narrowed down some.
*hugs*
