I think perhaps categories (for use back in the 21st century blog) might work. I believe there was a plugin available back then that would let one put 'everything but category x' on the front page.
Then again, might be easier for the ancestor to hack MT to pay attention only to the last 2 digits of the posting date (thereby causing another Y2k crisis in 2100).
