Firefly, Part II
I bought the box set.
Not that it's out in Australia. It's only available, as far as I know, in Region 1. Of course, that just means that I can walk into the shop and buy it just like a Region 4 DVD, and take it home and play it just like a Region 4 DVD, except that... Except that nothing. Tell me why they're bothering with this again?

Coz "they" think they're smart. I wonder how many of the manufacturers and DVD makers have multi-region players themselves?

Refresh my memory - does Australia do PAL or NTSC? I hacked my APEX to do mult-region and PAL/NTSC, but it didn't keep PAL discs from driving me absolutely around the bend... PAL's just a hair differently proportioned than NTSC, and the sound is a shade faster, so that everybody does a slight falsetto unless you play with the settings. I've also noticed nasty strobing glitches from my PAL discs.

Australia is PAL.
PAL is 625 lines, 50 fields / second - quite different from NTSC.
All the TVs, VCRs and DVD players sold here handle NTSC quite happily, though.
